The Inventors Of The Phil & Ted's
Stroller
Few buggy manufacturers in the world
would be able to claim being in the industry for over 10 years
(1993). Or to have influenced the industry as much, with
innovative designs and features that have gradually become
industry standards...
As
designers, Phil & Ted Green are responsible for developing
products that have spawned two successful businesses (Phil &
Teds most excellent Buggy Company, and the Adventure Buggy
Company) and initiated features which were possibly world firsts
in design. From even the first proto-types developed in 1993,
suspension was employed on a buggy (including the front swivel
wheel) - providing a smooth, low impact motion. It is likely that
this was the most sophisticated jogger buggy in use at that time.
The experience learnt from this initial
"technical" design led to the pursuit of ergonomic
simplicity. From this point Phil & Ted deliberately keep to
the maxim "keep it simple", whilst creating their
versatile products. Phil & Ted Green designed and produced
first (in the world) for 3-wheeled buggies: swivel wheel (and
locking swivel wheels), lay back positions for newborns, toddler
seat attachments for siblings, extendable handles.
Ted trained and qualified as an Orthotist,
whom specialize in corrective surgical appliances. Applying his
knowledge in posture and anatomy, Ted has designed the baby slings
for the various models produced over the past 10 years.
Collaborating with his son Phil in every facet of improvement,
their buggy designs have progressively refined to become what is
now generally considered the ultimate buggy - the Everest.
Phil Green has a broad business
experience, designing and manufacturing his own unique products
since 1985 (then only 19 years old). Prior to 1993, Phil designed
portable, motorised spraying machines. Primarily used by garden
centres and bowling clubs, the design culminated in a specialist
line-marking machine. This unique time-saving device made its
successful debut marking the lines for the first Rugby World Cup
in 1987: at Eden Park, Auckland and Athletic Park, Wellington.
